Education

Education has always been a major focus of The Oklahoma Master Chorale.  Prior to out of town concerts Dr. Williams frequently conducts classes providing background information on the composers and the works to be performed.  Prior to the performance of the Mozart Requiem in Yukon Dr. Williams lectured the students in St. John's Catholic School.  The students attended the concert and wrote reviews.

McAlester's Musical Heritage

The Oklahoma Master Chorale and Orchestra opened McAlester's week long Centennial Celebration in the newly restored McAlester Scottish Rite Masonic Temple.  The concert memorialized those who had settled the land by a performance of selections from Mozart's Requiem Mass.  It was followed by a performance of selections from Italian Operas in celebration of McAlester's Italian heritage.

Choral Clinic

Involving young people in the total life of Master Chorale is a fact about which we are intentional.  Our focus always is to open  the works of great composers to the understanding and availability of all people,  both young and old.

Each year Master Chorale travels from Oklahoma City to towns and communities across the state conducting concerts and clinics for young people.  Students in McAlester High School spent an entire afternoon in rehearsals with Master Chorale and then joined them in an early evening concert.

    Response to Clinic:

Hi Nettie,

My students really enjoyed doing the concert with your choir. They felt like singing with the “more mature voices” really gave them an advantage in the auditioning of the the  All State music. They were amazed to discover that “people other than them” really were singing; and that they could look forward to having something like “that choir” in which to sing as they themselves got older.

Keep in touch,

Marie Lutz
